First Year of College Ends

Its May 11th and I can’t believe that the school year is about to end. The first year of college that is. My daughter will be coming home on the 14th which is truly exciting. I miss her so much. As a parent you get to learn and know your child very well and I knew Niyah was ready to come home. She wanted to stay for another week for finals but I made the decision to get her earlier. I can just hear the frustration and stress in her voice about studying hard and finals coming up. Since all of her roomates were leaving and pretty much the majority of the students on campus, I would rather have her home with me stressing than her being by herself. Like I said before, you know your child and what’s best for them. I knew it was best for her to not be alone stressing.

What will the summer bring now that my daughter will be home. Well I am hoping to get some much needed vacation time in with her. I know she is going to want to hang out with family and friends more than me. She is going to continue school in the summer and take some summer classes for more credits and work so her schedule will be just as busy as mine. Time is flying so fast and I know soon August will be here and she will be right back out the door back at college.

I learned a lot about myself and about my daughter when she was away at college. It’s almost like you are getting to know your child all over again but in just a more mature way. I know a lot of people may not have a close relationship with their child for whatever reason but don’t give up on trying to have on with them. My goal as a parent has always been be the best parent I can be and be a better parent than your parents were to you. Always want the best for your child, not the same as what you had when you were a child.
