Its been a long time. Its a New Year

Wow! Where should I start. Well the last time I posted my daughter was in high school. Now she is in her first year of college. Yes, COLLEGE. I can’t believe it. Some many things have happened over the past few years and it’s just crazy how time flies. Sometimes we let the days get the best of us because they go so fast, you forget to do things. In my case I was forgetting to post on my blog. Now I am back and happy as every to continue to share my experience of having only one child.

My daughter is now 18 and I feel a little sad that she is growing up. Yeah I know kids won’t be kids forever but in my eyes I just need a little bit longer. She finally got her license, yayyyy and she has me so nervous about driving. I have always as a mother wanted to do things and with my daughter that my mom has never done with me so I decided to teach her how to drive. Well that was driving my anxiety high and I found myself holding on to the car door and yelling at her a lot. Not good. I was an ok teacher. A very ok teacher. So me and my husband decided to put her in driving school. She took 3 lessons that were 2 hours each and she passed her test on the first try. Yes, I was so happy.

The issue is now that she has her license she has no where to go due to the pandemic. This pandemic has been something that we will never forget. Last year was my daughters last year in high school and of course in person class stopped in March. There were no senior activities to attend. No senior prom or trip. Every week we were getting up dates about classes and if there was going to be a graduation or not. That was probably the most upsetting thing for me. I wanted to see my child walk across the stage to received her diploma that she worked so hard for but that couldn’t happen. Instead the school did a virtual graduation and they drove past every students house to deliver their diploma personally. They made it so it was fun for the student with music and all the neighbors were out congratulating all the graduates. It was different but it was very nice considering the circumstances were are in.

Now that we are still in this pandemic, I am working from, so is my husband and my daughter will be starting the spring semester home online until further notice when they will be allowed back in school. We have been trying to stay safe and healthy and I hope you all are doing the same. I know everybody has had some type of wrench thrown in their daily lives with this pandemic which could be making it a bit of a struggle to keep your only child entertained. No matter what age they are. I know for me, now that she is 18 all she wants to do is stay on her phone. Well that doesn’t last long in my house. Sometimes you just have to make them do other things to keep them occupied. If this is the case for you just hold on tight. You are doing a great job and just continue doing what you are doing. Stay tuned for some tips and tricks I use to get my daughter to stay productive and off the phone as much as I can. Until then, mask up and stay safe.
